The Little Laners has now launched

So we've been a bit quiet on the blogging front, keeping our heads down working on a new project, but I'm jumping back on the horse and excited to announce that we have now launched The Little Laners.  It's where we like to think the cool kids hang out!

We try to keep it bright, keep it colourful, keep it fun and creative, basically keep it anything but boring. There is nothing worse than turning up to a kids birthday party with the same present as someone else. I know I've been there with my little goddaughter, she's too small to understand why she has triplet mini-mouses, that's what we decided to call it to spare the embarrassment.

So with that in mind we thought enough's enough.  It's time the kids got a share of our discoveries and boy did we do good.. ahem, even if we do say so ourselves!  Actually we were super lucky, we searched and we found.  We are excited to be working with so many creative and exciting designers all leading the way to make life a little less boring for everyone.

So without further ado, welcome kids designers with your quirky colourful twist you are making buying presents for kids more fun, and importantly a little more unique.

Enjoy your journey through The Little Laners from toys and clothing to funky homewares to help them build their castle and cool accessories to make them stand out from the crowd.  We have a little something for everyone.

Monday Mood Board: I Got Chills!

We saw a hint of Spring weather earlier on in the month and dare I say it, but with all the excitement that the winter had gone, I think we may have jinxed it peeps!  Although the sun was out over the weekend, boy was it chilly, and my chills were certainly multiplying (sorry I couldn't resist!).

So my mood board this week is bringing cosy back with warm sweatshirts and a hot water bottle that would make the perfect gift.  All that's missing from the board is a lovely cup of tea... and on that note, I'm off to put the kettle on!

Monday Mood Board: Floral Dreams

I love London in the Spring,  it creates a different buzz in the city, everyone seems happier and you can actually start to take advantage of all the green outdoor spaces and parks.  This weekend we had our first BBQ of the year (the first of many I hope), it was such a lovely way to spend the day, sitting outside surrounded by Spring flowers, eating great food and having a glass or two of wine, whilst soaking up some much needed vitamin D.

In dedication to all the flowers bursting with colour, all the cherry blossom on the tress and all the beautiful parks in and around London, we have a colourful floral theme for you in this weeks mood board!

Meet 'In Your Dreams'

We couldn't wait to introduce you to the quirky duo behind 'In Your Dreams'.  With a passion for illustration and festivals, it's impossible not to fall in love with their enchanting and intricate eyelash creations.  With the festival season hot on everyone's mind for the summer, we thought it was time to discover a little more about Bryony and Madeline, and meet the successful women behind the creative brand.

Tell us a bit about yourselves…

We are two London based Illustrator/artists who have joined forces to create In Your Dreams - an ethereal beauty accessories brand providing makeup, paint & embellishment services across the UK and Ibiza, perfect for festivals, parties and corporate events.

How did you go from face and body painting to eyelashes?

The eyelashes naturally evolved, we started off purely just using paint then added embellishment & eyelashes completed the look creating some seriously striking outcomes. After such high demand at the Festivals in 2012 we launched the first lash collection for Spring/Summer 2013 and then a second shorty after for Autumn/Winter looks.

Where do you get your inspiration for each collection?

We are inspired by the incredible people we meet at the festivals, you see a lot of underground trends before they reach the streets! Plus the other designers we work around bring an immense amount of inspiration to both of us.

The Festival Collection has a dreamy, quirky & ethereal festival vibe.  The Supernatural Collection was all about Halloween & the Party season so darker, sexier & more glamorous looks.

What’s your favourite way to style your lashes?

Each lash design has it’s own personality & therefore needs to be styled differently but bindi’s are one of our staple favourite looks to compliment the lashes. Endless combinations and intricate shapes to be created with beautiful colour palettes to choose from and match with the lashes. we also love to put gems underneath the middle of eyes - almost like a teardrop, it almost widens the eyes and create such a striking and intriguing look.

What’s your most overplayed song at the moment?

Little Shoes Big Voice - Blue Veins

Which Festival are you most looking forward to this year?

Wilderness is perfect for In Your Dreams such incredible surroundings with a great vibe & brilliant people. It also has such a great line up this year… London Grammar, Jessie Ware & Sam Smith. Say that we LOVE Secret Garden Party, it really is a very magical festival!

What’s your top make up tip for this festival season?

Be bold, our lashes our perfect for a festival, you can wear them over and over again. Also... you can never wear too much glitter, anything goes at a festival, it’s the one chance to look how you’ve always dreamt of looking but never had the chance, or guts.

What’s your favourite item from The Lost Lanes?
There is such a good selection of rings - we love to accessorise. Especially love the Sparrow Skull, Moss & French Fry rings!

If you're feeling inspired to try something new or wanting to be brave and stand out from the crowd this festival season, why not come over to shop our eyelashes and be enchanted with 'In Your Dreams'

Monday Mood Board: Kitchen Goddess

I was baking all weekend for absolutely no reason at all other than I have a pile of recipes collected from both Pinterest and food magazines that I felt it was about time I tried out.

Are you like that or is it just me? A hoarder of all things food & recipe related?  I collect so many clippings and every time I save something on my Pinterest boards I have the very best of intentions. But I never quite manage it, so this weekend was my test.

I made sponge cakes, a custard tart and tried my hand at some delicious bread. All in all I think it was a job well done, well, of course the sponge could have been lighter, the custard could have been a bit thicker and the bread, could have been, well, breadier! But a little pride came over me when I stared at my average baked goods.  I mean obviously I won't be doing it again in a hurry not because of anything other than, it took me ALL weekend!

But it did get me thinking to shows like 'The Great British Bake Off', where no contestant actually bakes for a living yet everyone could pass themselves off as a master pastry chef.  They work so hard in their spare time and weekends off.  I was always in awe of them anyway, but now more so.  Now I realise the effort and prep, that's why my bread will never be breadier, I just don't put the work in.

There must be so many amateur cooks out there concocting cakes fit for awards, and so in homage to these Kitchen Gods and Goddesses I have dedicated my Monday Mood Board to you. Well done and happy baking guys!

Monday Mood Board: Pastel Colours for Mother's Day

So (as if you could miss it), this winter has been the wettest winter in the UK since records began. What a horrible few months it has been, opening curtains to grey skies and wet weather, lots of doom and gloom on the TV.  Irate people on public transport who have gone head to head with the wind and the rain, the elements winning of course.  Just off my street a little shrine of  umbrellas lay, broken and bent, until just a few days ago when they were eventually moved to pastures new.

But, today I am looking out and it couldn't be prettier, with a lovely blue sky and beautiful sunshine it has made me pine for the Spring.  For those crisp mornings, where yes there is a chill to the air but the sunshine makes you want to skip to work anyway. Where you walk past your local park and see daffodils and tulips bursting through tufts of grass, fighting one another for attention.

All these thoughts of pretty Spring colours made me think about how a little change in weather can affect your mood, so I thought what better time to introduce our 'Monday Mood Board' feature!

This week, it's all about pretty gifts for Mother's Day inspired by Spring colours.

Cheese and wine fiend!

I love cheese and wine, so much so that it should actually be my opening statement when introducing myself to new people.  And to be honest, if it wasn't for the fact that a line like that could give a stranger the impression that I am a raging alcoholic, I probably would!

Last weekend we decided to try out Walluc a wine bar in Shoreditch that specialises in cheese including fondue and raclette.

Walking through the doors feels like stepping into a Parisian wine bar, there are candles everywhere, low lighting and leather sofas with no two chairs alike.

A really simple idea, they work with small producers from France and Italy importing regional wines and cheeses.  The menu was simple, there was a choice of Raclette, Fondue or a cheese board.  You select what you prefer.  The wine menu was even simpler you just need to know if you fancy red, white or maybe a prosecco.  Everything is bought in small batches so the wine changes all the time, it works well for them as a wine bar and great for the producers who can't cope with the high demand of bigger companies.

We went for the red wine and a cheese board, I wish I could say "and here's a photo" but it was SO good by the time we thought about it, it was all gone.  I guess that means we'll have to return to get that all important photo... dang! Well what's a girl to do, it is important this getting a photo lark.

January Blues?

Is anyone else finding it hard to get back into the swing of things after the festivities?  There is such a huge build up to Christmas and then it’s over before you know it.  Leaving everyone feeling a bit, well, urgh!

January blues are hard work to get over, I know for me it’s all about the summer once Christmas is over.  I sit here willing the summer to arrive so I can make the most of the outdoor events.  Not that I want to wish time away, but there is something about January that makes me feel a bit sorry for myself.

Anyway, I decided to pep myself up with some “window shopping” on The Lost Lanes and I curated a list, a “medicine” if you will, with gifts and treats for under £20, perfect to banish those January blues away.

So today I wanted to take some time out to share some of the hidden gems on our website with you.

First up jewellery, because when you're feeling a bit down in the dumps nothing is a better pick me up than a bit of candy to adorn yourself.

Already got everything you wanted for Christmas including jewellery?  Well how about some beautiful wall art to brighten up the home or office?

Still in need of some inspiration to add some cheer to your day?  Well how about a lovely mug to drink your morning tea or coffee?

This is just a small selection of what's available so come on over and have a snoop at the full collection here, come on you know you want to!

Another year another resolution...

Happy New Year folks, I'm not quite sure where 2013 went, but 2014 is most certainly here, and now as if like clockwork, it's time to get those resolutions and promises dusted off from last year and pinned up on the wall! I have always said that the 1st of January should be spent deciding on your resolutions (whilst still eating and drinking merrily) then they shouldn't be official until the 2nd of January.  This gives me one more day in holiday mode and I don't know why but that always makes me feel better about it, must be all the food and booze, go figure?!

Now usually I go into resolutions in all the wrong way, they are always unachievable lists guaranteed to fail in the first week.  It's always lame stuff like "eat less chocolate", impossible resolution number one; I always have so much chocolate and sweets left over from the holidays I fail by day one and then feel so bad I eat even more to console myself (obvs!).

Then there is the obligatory "diet" impossible resolution number two; Why does this ever make it on our lists? It's not something that's long term (or at least shouldn't be), it doesn't really mean much other than it's the done thing and is there because you think it has to be and because January magazines tell you it's the latest fad and therefore should be.  My diet resolutions are usually broken by day two, maybe even stretched until day three if I'm really putting some effort into it.

Then that's it game over, you feel defeated and sad or in my case it means you eat more chocolate... I'm not going to lie to you my guilt trip is a bit of a shameful treat, it is pretty much an endless circle of chocolate eating, what can I say, I bloody love chocolate!

So this year I have decided to mix it up a little, I want to keep healthy with exercise nothing unobtainable. I don't want to go Madonna muscle mad in the gym but I'd quite like to be able to run for a bus and not be out of breath (that should be pretty obtainable surely).

Number two on the list is that I'd like to add a little vegan eating to my diet a couple of times a week it's only two out of 7 days, how hard can that be?  Finally, I want to take advantage of all the free and cool stuff happening in and around London this year which in turn will mean getting out and about and meeting with friends much more (bonus!).

There you have it, nothing too traumatic nothing too intense just nice things that will make the winter and post Christmas blues more bearable.

The hardest will of course be the exercise, I love the feeling of pride I have post exercise, honestly I do, and as sad as this will sound, for me even as little as ten minutes of exercise has me wanting to hi-five myself and strut out of the gym like an absolute legend.

The truth is I wish I was more gym crazy, I like the idea of being into exercise, in fact I like nothing more than imaging myself at the gym working it like Jane Fonda in a leotard and leg warmers.  But I do find it hard to kick start the routine which I guess is where the willpower will have to do it's thing and get involved. This is where it helps to just have one hard thing on that resolution list that's manageable, as opposed to 20 things that you'll struggle to give enough attention to.

I was actually putting together a collection of ideal gifts for those admirable 'gym junkies' today on the site, which got me writing this post, and I was reminded of my favourite items the gym and yoga bags. Nothing better than a bit of motivation on a bag, and letting everyone else around you know you are indeed off to exercise, now if that's not a reason for strutting around like a legend I don't know what else is?!

You can view our "Gym Junkie" gift collection here, makes the perfect gift for the gym buddy that has it all, or a lovely motivational treat especially for you!
